2016 Kia Sorento Review
This post is sponsored by Drive Shop & Kia, however all brutally honest opinions are my own.
When I initially found out that I'd have a chance to review the 2016 Kia Sorento, I wasn't that excited about it. Kia wasn't a brand that I was familiar with or cared to learn much about. However, when I tell you I almost cried when our trial was over...it was a sad moment in this house. The completely redesigned Sorento, is more spacious, user friendly and beautifully made. Costing around $25k, you should consider getting one as your money will stretch a long way. Here are 3 reasons why I'm now thinking of purchasing one myself:
Reason 1: It's Fly //
cool, in style
I have the most random work schedule. so thankfully my nephews were home when it was time for Liv to get dropped off. Side note: that's what I named her (the car)- a la Olivia Pope, because she looks great in white. When I pulled up next to it to it upon returning from work, I was shocked at how stylish it was, I couldn't believe this was the car I'd be driving. To be honest, I was so convinced that I'd hate it that I didn't bother doing any research. While out running an errand, the guy who was waiting to assist me yelled,
"Damn is that the new Kia Sorento? Can I go look at it?"
. I did grant him the courtesy of plastering his face against the windows to look inside, I felt so darn cool in that moment. No one ever runs up to me in my regular car because they're so impressed.
"Hhhhhhmmm, maybe Kia is up to something here",
I thought to myself. This car allows you to ride in
without the luxury price tag. This particular model had two toned leather seats that were the cherry on top of already beautiful cake.
Reason 2: Family Friendly & Functional //
If you follow me on instagram, you may be aware that recently I had a house filled with family visiting from Jamaica. As many days as I could manage after work, I'd pack everyone in the car and take them to do something local and affordable. I was surprised to have found that the 2016 Kia Sorento featured 3 full rows of seats, which made it easy to fit a group of extremely tall boys - one of my nephews is 6'8 - plus the 3 or 4 full size suitcases they traveled with. From grocery shopping trips, to rides to the boardwalk and around town, I didn't have to deal with anyone complaining because it was too many people to fit in the car. You can also fold the back seats down if needed.
Reason 3: The Features //
There are so many features that I absolutely love about this car! Let me count the ways:
- Surround View Monitor // If we're being honest here, my parallel parking skills have dwindled dramaticly since moving out of New York. Sometimes, even backing up is a challenge because people just come out nowhere no matter how many times you check. With the Surround View Monitor however, I didn't have to put my "Back out and hope for the best" method in use. I was able to see everything due to this wonderful technology that not only let's you utilize a backup mirror but also a birds eye view visual. When I initially realized that I could view this angle on the monitor, I told my husband, "This is some kind of sorcery". Turns out it's not, it's just four mounted cameras.
- Blind Spot Technology & Lane Departure Warning // Driving with children in the car can be distracting. Sometimes they're crying, nagging for things, they dropped their sippy cup and they can't deal - so many things can happen. It's nice to have features built into a car so that can help to look out for me in a sense. Sometimes we can be doing too many things at once, so having the car let me know that I can't switch lanes as yet is extremely important. Even on occasions where you're driving by yourself, not being able to see a vehicle in our blind spot can be a life or death situation. Having the Blind Spot Technology and Lane Departure Warning gives me a boost in the confidence that my family is a little safer on the road.
Lesson learned here: never say never. I'm quite sure that I've said on at least one occasion that I would never drive a Kia, yet I've driven one and I've fallen absolutely in love with it. I loved Liv the 2016 Kia Sorento so much that my husband and I have had serious conversations about making this our next car purchase. We would argue about who was driving it to work each day, ha! I have been converted, I am a believer - I am sold. Every time I see one while driving, I reminisce about our week together. It was a wonderful time that I will never forget and one that has completely shifted my perspective on the Kia brand.
