Over Memorial Day Weekend, I headed 2 hours west to Siesta Key with my girlfriends to celebrate one of their birthdays. My friend Wannie has been telling me about Siesta Key Beach ever since I came to Orlando. Voted the best beach in America (yup, the whole country) I had to check it out myself as I consider myself a connoisseur of beaches - lol. How it could be THE BEST? I had to see what the hype was about. Once we arrived to the laid back beach town, I felt right at home. I'm an island girl, tropical settings make me feel so relaxed yet inspired. Within five minutes I was screamed out, "I love it here!".
As we tried to make our way to the beach, a guy on an extended golf cart thing asked where we were going. Dragging coolers, food and handfuls of random things to make for a comfortable day trip, it turned out that we were walking in the opposite direction of the beach. He provided a shuttle service and got us to the water in no time. He also provided his card so that we could call him when we needed a ride back to our car. I have to say, not even South Florida or Naples have I seen sand so white and powdery. The water was beautiful and everyone was so nice. We met a lot of locals who were all in the best moods, very tanned and so grateful to be living in Siesta Key. I can't wait until I can retire on a beach one day.
We ate, Wannie did an impromptu Beyoncé performance, I read, floated in the ocean, made new friends - it was such a perfect day! I had an incredible day with the girls, but I can't wait to re-visit with my little family for an entire weekend. I don't typically get excited about Florida summers, but this year there's a different energy. There are so many things I want to do and so many places I want to visit. I'm looking forward to trying new things, eating new foods and spending this season in an adventurous state of mind. I can't wait to experience all the amazing things that are headed my way.
