Mom, Baby and Beyond: Ultimate Moms Night Out #UMNO14
I just found out that it's Thursday. That's awesome because that means that Scandal is coming back on tonight but on the other hand, I'm like, "Where did a whole week go?". I started my usually weekend post but I ran out of time in preparation for Mom, Baby and Beyond .It might be good that I didn't get to finish, it was boring stuff like photos of me making soap and assembling packaging, yadda, yadda, yadda.
Prepping for an event as a vendor as opposed to a blogger is so different. Typically, my main concern includes a good outfit, hair, makeup, remembering my business cards and making sure that I charged my camera. This time however, I spent days (and nights) making enough product, packaging it up, still had to remember my business cards, got my banner printed and like I mentioned, more boring tedious business stuff. Grey and I had to make the 3.5 hour drive ourselves to Fort Lauderdale which was smooth on the way down but absolutely terrible on the way back as he cried straight for the last hour or so. We're never doing that again.
First things first, selfie! My cousin Janique installed crochet braids which are absolutely everything - I'll have a full post on it soon. But back to the event, it's what you're here for...
I had the girls coming to help me but I had to wait for them to get off work. I unloaded my car by myself and took my time setting up my table. When I was done, it officially hit me that I'm a legit business woman. I've been working really hard on my brand but I don't think I've ever really sat back to reflect on how far I've come in the past 2 months or so. I can't believe that the little idea in my brain has turned into physical products that people love. Creating Jolie Bloom in my daughter Jolie's honor has been so therapeutic and rewarding for me. It's only the beginning, but I'm proud of what I've been doing thus far. Ok let's move on before I get super emotional, you know me...
The display turned out beautiful - I couldn't have been more happier about it and received so many compliments on it. I didn't have an exact vision per se, but I had a feeling that I wanted to convey - warmth, organic and inviting. It's the same way that I decorate my house and put my outfits together, I just get things that are authentic to me and it works.
So one of the guys from the Whole Foods table brought some gazpacho over which I just learned how to spell. Maybe. Is that correct? It was my first time trying it and it was yummy tomato goodness. Also, by the end of the night we were all so deliriously tired that we broke into a painful laughing fit. My stomach hurt so bad and tears were pouring out my eyes while everyone looked at us like we'd completely lost it. But that's what happens when I hang out with these two.
At the end of the night, I was pooped but happy. I sold stuff, met some awesome ladies and laughed uncontrollably. I'd call that a success. Being a MOMtrepreneur is such a cool yet challenging path. It's what I've always wanted and it's surreal that I'm here. Just a few weeks ago, my friend Deseray and I were talking about what we wanted to do with our lives. My response was, "I just wanna raise my baby and make soap" - and here I am, lol.
By the way You Are The Roots has a great recap of the event that you should check out. She was so sweet and her camera put mine to shame. I actually forgot my camera and was only able to take cell phone photos at the event ((slaps forhead)). Head over to her blog and see what she had to say about Jolie Bloom and her gorgeous photos! Thanks pretty girl.
